As the nights draw in and we dust off our hats and scarves in anticipation of a Scottish winter, brave Catriona will be embracing the nip in the air as she has shaved her hair off to raise funds for Ochre and awareness of oesophageal cancer in her local area.

Vet, Catriona MacIntyre said today,

“My family has a long and devastating history of oesophageal cancer. That has caused great sadness and suffering through generations but the recent diagnosis of my friend, Fiona with the disease has made me determined to make sure this devastating diagnosis becomes a thing of the past.

“As a farm vet I know that my shaved head will attract lots of attention and that gives the whole community an opportunity to talk about oesophageal cancer and its symptom, like heartburn, which easy to ignore. Working outdoors over winder without hair sends is my way of showing how much I care and want to raise awareness of this disease in Dunoon and beyond. The support I have had already from family and friends is quite overwhelming and I am so grateful to my community for getting behind me.

“Special thanks to Beauty Box owner, Jean Wilson who stepped in to perform the act in case I decided to do it myself with my shears!”

Our wonderful supporter Catriona has raised over £2000 to date with her heroic gesture and we cannot thank her enough.
