Brechin Folk Dig Deep to Battle Cancer

The big hearted folk of Brechin  have raised over £1,500 to combat oesophageal cancer in memory of a much loved member of staff at the Brechin Castle Centre.

Family and friends of Pat Forbes who worked in the Centre’s Cafeteria for 13 year raised the money after she passed away from the disease last year. In Pat’s honour a cheque for £1,528.27 was handed over to Ochre Director, Dave Scott at the Centre earlier this month. Many of Pat’s regular customers at the poplar cafeteria contributed to the amount through special donation cans supplied by the company. The cheque was handed over to Ochre by Pat’s husband Mike, members of her family and former colleges from the Castle Garden Centre.

Ochre Director Dave Scott said:

“This is a wonderfully generous donation and shows just how loved Pat was by her family and friends. After they had presented the cheque we sat in the sun beside the lake and the family shared their memories of her and there was much laughter as they remembered someone who obviously made a big impact on a lot of lives.

“Cancer is a brutal and terrible disease but it will never take our memories of the people we love. Pat’s husband Mike paid a very moving tribute to her and it was deeply touching to hear how they had been able to fulfil one of her final wishes to enjoy a concert in Maastricht shortly before she passed away. We would like to thank Mike and his family as well as the staff and customers of the wonderful Brechin Castle Centre for their generosity. The family have asked that this donation is put towards research to finding a cure for oesophageal cancer and it will support a medical programme we are funding at Queens University, Belfast.  We would like to thank everyone who donated to this appeal in memory of a very special lady. “
