Pamela Changes Lives with OCHRE

We at OCHRE are continually blown away by the positive ways in which people deal with illness and loss, turning those life changing challenges into triumph. Pamela Bonshor is one such heroine and her commitment will change lives for people living with and affected by oesophageal cancer.

After a lifetime serving his country in the Navy and then on the railways, Pamela’s beloved father John lost his fight with oesophageal cancer shortly after his 65th birthday in January of this year. Pamela’s father is another tragic example of someone diagnosed too late for life saving treatment and yet another reason why OCHRE is working non-stop to increase awareness of this cancer and its symptoms.

Despite her grief Pamela and her friends Heidi Garrett and Lyndsay New undertook a 10K trek of the South Downs to raise funds for OCHRE. Pamela said, “On 12th May 2012 my friends and I took off with one aim in mind. The trek was mainly uphill and much harder than we imagined! But we had a wonderful day and altogether raised a total of £1387 for OCHRE”.

Allan Lapsley, Chair of OCHRE said, “OCHRE is thrilled to receive this donation from Pamela, Heidi and Lyndsay. We are working with NHS and with the Scottish Government to improve outcomes for oesophageal cancer and very soon we will be unveiling the exciting ways in which donations like Pamela’s are being used to make a real difference. OCHRE is so grateful to the many people who run, trek, walk and tirelessly fundraise so that fewer families suffer the heartbreak we hear of daily from families like the Bonshors. Thank you Pamela!”
